Growing up in Constable country surrounded by stunning scenery and animals I loved to draw and paint from an early age, inspired by my parents who both had a natural ability to paint and draw.
I studied Fashion and Textiles at Manchester and after obtaining a BA Hons in that field, pursued a career in Fashion design for the next 25 years. I still freelance and enjoy working with colour, graphics and design.
It is with that passion for colour, an appealing image, and nature in all it's guises that I began painting seriously. I take my inspiration from my surroundings, which is rural Cheshire, so horses, dogs and birds feature in my work.
I take on commission work, but love to paint portraits of animals and people that capture a character. I am fascinated with the relationship between humans and their animals and am currently exploring this in a series of paintings.
I specialise in equine and canine portraits and am an active member of the Association of Animal Artists, and the
Society of Equestrian Artists.

My mediums of choice are acrylics and oils but I love to experiment with all mediums. I think it is really important to release the inner child when being creative as it is only while we are truly inhibited that we can be original and true to ourselves.
Acrylic allows me to experiment with colour and texture, whilst I like to use oil for a more classical approach to portrait painting.

THE BIG PAINTING CHALLENGE

I feel thoroughly privileged to have been selected from over 6000 hopefuls to take part in The Big Painting Challenge on BBC1. It was a terrifying, stressful, enriching, unforgettable experience that I hope I can put to good use in my work going forward. I met some wonderful people that have become good friends and we were all excited to be exhibiting together after the series ended.
The most rewarding thing for me would be if I knew that the show had inspired people that have never picked up a brush or pencil before, to have a go. I am a firm believer that anyone can paint - you just have to practice! You can read all about the experience in my blog. |
