IT'S TIME TO GET THE INK OUT FOR INKTOBER 2019I don't know about you, but I now the summer is over and Autumn has shown it's presence in the form of dewy mornings and an overwhelming desire to put the heating on, I now have a renewed excitement about creating some new work! It also means I can get back into a routine and start/finish the commissions I have on order without interruptions (haha) and a renewed focus! The studio has been cleared out - though anyone that didn't see it before wouldn't believe me; Fresh canvases ordered, old ones sorted into piles of sell, bin, or rework; research started on new projects, and I have bought some new knitwear in preparation for chilly days and evenings in my north facing studio. |
But no more! I feel like a bottle of champagne that has had it's cork popped off! Millions of fizzing ideas bursting to get out of me as quickly as possible!
I am hoping that this renewed sense of energy will see me through the next couple of months at least as all this procrastination and idling about has left me with a task list as long as my winter scarf (which was unravelled and checked for moth balls when the temperature dipped last week!)
Having been through this kind of stop/start approach to creating art before I know that if I do not make lists and plan what I want the outcome to be, it will all be lost in a frustrating heap of aborted 'To Do's' and serve to fuel the self doubt that us artists undoubtedly feel when things are not flowing from the brush and out through the door to the kerching of the till!
Print Pastel and Paint, the vehicle for art outings (Patchings, Art Fairs, Exhibitions and Workshops) has also been a bit neglected this summer as we decided to concentrate all our efforts into getting the teens through their GCSE's fuelled by healthy breakfasts, vitamin packed suppers and a constant presence in case of inevitable meltdowns! Exam results in, 'A' levels started and a new daily routine, means a bit more time to get stuff done so with that in mind I am looking at 3 lists on my desk!
List 2 - Be Authentic Task: Do more painting from life When/What: 3 Day Workshop with Society of Equestrian Artists painting race horses from life all booked and paid for! Where: Middleham, home to race horses in Yorkshire! So excited about this!! AND When: Paint local scenery practising landscapes for larger works for next years exhibition (to be announced) Where: Teggs Nose, Macclesfield """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" |
In the meantime why not embrace the darker nights as they creep in and use the time to get that sketchbook out or learn something new?
I will be posting my daily ink doodles on here and also across Instagram/Facebook using the #inktober2019. Hope you can join in!
