MY Inktober 2018
Wow! This is the first time I have actually completed #inktober after a few years of shaky starts and stops, but I was determined to have a full month of artwork to raise money for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary after a visit there over the summer left me with some really great vibes about the place.
Bleakholt is situated on top of a hill near Ramsbottom in Lancashire, surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside. It gets really cold up there in the winter and the staff sometimes have to make the journey on foot to ensure that all the animals are fed and cared for when it is too icy to drive to the sanctuary. The staff are totally dedicated to the animals in their care and they know the personalities, likes and dislikes of them all. It was this holistic approach to caring for these animals that really impressed me. It wasn't enough that all the dogs were walked every day - they also have their favourite toys and blankets and a warm area to sleep in. The cats have warmed sleeping areas and a large play pen to play in with toys and things to climb on. The pigs have a lovely warm shelter stuffed with straw and an area to wallow in, the donkeys are just spoilt rotten, and the horses get huge paddocks to roam in. There is so much to see at Bleakholt, and they have excellent refreshments on sale in the newly opened cafe too.
If you are close by it really is worth a day out. They welcome visitors and if you are looking to rehome a pet then there are plenty to choose from. They are quite rigorous in how they select the right people to look after their 'guests' so be prepared to answer questions and have a visit from one of the managers though.
So please do look at the artwork that I have created over every day of October, and if you are happy to donate a minimum of £15 for each one (to cover P+P etc) then please go to my facebook page where the auction is being held. All artworks will be sent First Class post, flat packed in a white mount and protective cello bag.
Thanks in advance for supporting unwanted animals and this incredible place that looks after them so well.
