What You Will Learn
-
Creating Moodboards
It all begins with an idea and we will spend time learning how to create a mood board to use as a springboard for our own paintings
-
Developing Your Marks
Explore different mark making tools to create mood, describe form, visual interest.
-
The Power of Colour
Every colour has a meaning that evokes a reaction in all of us depending on our life experiences. We will explore how colours evoke mood and how we can choose them to tell our story
-
Composition
Lead your viewer through your painting by using compositional tools as breadcrumbs! We will look at different compositions and explore how they alter our perception of a painting.
-
Unlock Creative Blocks
Get out of the fug of creative block with some fun exercises designed to silence the logical brain and allow the creativity to flow!
-
Create Energy
Working in a small group of like minded artists will provide support and camaraderie as well as one on one mentoring from me!
So what’s the plan?
Week 1
We will be gathering source material by creating mood boards of ideas, sketching outdoors (weather permitting!) and taking part in some creative warm up exercises
Week 2
We will be looking at how colour evokes mood and exploring various limited palettes to identify which colours speak to you, identifying which colours you want to work with for the rest of the course.
Week 4
We will pull all our information and development together and paint our very own abstract landscape using a limited palette, exciting marks and effective composition to create a work you can be proud of!
Week 3
Good composition is an effective way to get the viewer to unlock the meaning behind a painting and we will look at different types of composition to ensure your painting works on different levels.
Creative Sparks
Ever wanted to loosen up and explore abstract art?
Or maybe you would like to take time to explore your own journey into mark making, colour and discover your own style?
From established artists to new explorers, this four week course will give you some great tips and exercises to start you on a new journey to find your own authentic voice.
We all have our own journeys and life experiences, even our own bodies have their own quirks and limitations, and all these things combined give us the tools to tell our own stories through our art. From the way we hold a pencil or paintbrush, the colours we are drawn to, and the subjects we prefer - all make us totally unique! This course is designed to give yourself the time, and permission, to explore what it is that makes you YOU and how we can use that information to paint with authenticity and excitement!
Join me on a four week journey into Abstract Expressionism where we will be exploring, experimenting, gathering source material, developing ideas, playing with colour and materials, and bringing it altogether in our very own abstract painting on canvas!
Based in Waterside Studio at Clonterbrook, every Thursday throughout February.
Small group ensures one to one mentorship and a supporting cohort.
