I’ve been Shortlisted!

Morning Shadows - Acrylic on Canvas - 30×30cm

I had some good news today!

In fact , I had almost forgotten I had entered, but as a member of the VAA and admiring the work they do for the art community, I entered one of the little paintings inspired by my trip to St Davids last Spring.

I have been shortlisted for the VAA’s Artist of the Year competition - which means I am automatically entered into the People’s Choice Award! Yay!

Morning Shadows is a 30×30cm dive into abstracting a scene that greeted me and my lovely art pal, Karen Sillar, as we headed out from our little rental cottage to the coastal path every morning.

I was particularly drawn to the striking shape that the back of the adjacent cottages made and it’s cast shadow as the morning light caught the little track that took us on our days adventure.

Painted using a limited palette of Magenta, Cadmium Yellow, and Pthalo Blue with Titanium White I experimented with various techniques to get the little flashes of unexpected interest peaking through the layers here and there.

It forms part of a small series looking at shadow play and light, one of which I am adding to as we go through the year. It’s sister painting, Tuscan Shade sold at my Open Studio, but this little gem is still waiting for it’s forever home.

If you would like to support my entry into the Peoples Choice Award CLICK HERE - you just have to click on the one you would like to vote for, (scroll down about half way to find mine) and enter - it will ask you for your name and email address - VOILA! There are some lovely paintings in the short list, and I feel proud have been selected thus far! Wish me luck as they whittle the entries down :)

Tonight I will be celebrating my small win with a lovely glass of Sauvignon Blanc! Cheers!

Alison Stafford

Drawn to the landscape, I am fascinated by the subtle shifts of colour, form and texture which are ever-changing according to fast moving weather patterns. The challenge is to capture it all with the energy and excitement that the scene before me ignites. Most of my work is started in my sketchbook and reimagined onto canvas or wood panels in acrylics, oils and pastels.

I also teach art to adults and love to use my enthusiasm and passion to light the creative fire within others!

I would love to hear from you if you would like to purchase my artwork, or attend one of my workshops.
